Q: ACTIVATION LOCK AND FIND THE OWNER

Someone lost an ipod touch at a ball tournament.  No luck finding them at that time.  The device screen was password protected.  I have done a restore to brake the code.  I am at the activation lock screen which needs the user info.  I hope they are still monitoring the device so we can get it back to them.  Not sure what the options are now! Can apple get any further information and linked to an icloud account or device location.

Do what you should have done in the first place: turn it into the police.

it will just sit in lost an found. No one will claim it.  I will have better chance charging it connecting and have the apple finder app locate it.  I am going to try the text group for the baseball teams again. Hopefully someone asked a coach in the community about it.  You make it sound like I am trying to keep it. If I was it would not have sat in a cash box since June hoping someone would claim it.  Not to mention the attempts to get it back to the owner on game day walking around to all the teams playing asking them to spread the word. A Batting glove was lost as well and we did the same with that.  Your insinuation is not appreciated.

I made no insinuation. I made a plain statement about what the proper thing to do with found objects is. I have no interest in your motives for doing or not doing anything.

if the activation lock comes up will alert the owner! We are sending a group text to all baseball directors and all 8u coaches one more time.  If no response then it will be turned in to police. Just trying to get an alert or message to owner.  I spoke with an officer. They basically check to see if someone reports it stolen. No claim. They put it in the paper which no really gets any more. Still no claim then they auction it off.

The will need to be sure that, when they auction it off that they explain it's useless.

Mleg is right. Turn it in to the police. The lock will not be removed without the receipt from the original owner. Apple won't unlock it for you either unless you are the original owner. If the phone was lost and the owner no longer cares to find it, they will need to remove it from their Apple ID. Plain and simple.

Thanks. already read up on all the info you stated but thanks for the input.  Hopefully we can get it back to the owner.
