Q: How to stop auto launch of apps?

Hello,

on my mac running macOS Sierra the apps TextEdit, Safari and AppStrore are started when user logs in.

I have checked the startup items in the user settings and also the folder <user>/Library/StartupItems. There are no entries that point to one of the applications.

The folders <user>/Library/LaunchAgents and <user>/Library/LaunchDaemons do not show any files pointing to one of the apps.

Any ideas how to analyze and stop this behavior?

Thx

Felix

    Try in a Terminal window:

    rm -r "~/Library/Saved Application State/*"

And, yet another location, the system /Library/StartupItems folder?

StartupItems is not used anymore, since Yosemite.

I suggest you run Etrecheck and post its report here. It may help us all get a better idea of what your setup is and may suggest a possible cause for the issue.

Here is a thought: try removing Google Drive from your Login Items, quit all programs, log out, log back in.

Do the same programs still open automatically?

Even though this seems totally unrelated, there have been reports of Google Drive causing weird stuff. If there is no change, you can just add it back.

Try restarting in Safe Mode. This is slow, and will clear a number of caches.

See if the apps still start automatically in Safe Mode.

Then restart normally again, and let us know if this helped.

In save mode the apps are not started.

In normal mode they are still started.

This is useful information. It tells us that something that is launched in normal mode but not in Safe Mode is involved.

I wonder about the cloudstation software... do you use it to manage a NAS? It is dated March, so maybe there is an update.

The problem exist longer than march.

I will check later if uninstalling all the cloudstation stuff will help.

After cleaning up the Login Items I just found out that notes.app also starts.

Thanks for today. I have to stop here.

    Uninstall Virtual Box.

    Does the problem still happen?

When you reinstall VB, use the latest version:
