Wifi doesn't matter provided you have ethernet networking that works.

Your Mac only supports 10.7.5 according to Apple. If you want to install a later OS you need to do extra 'hacks' that allow your Mac to run unsupported OS's. Obviously you need these OS's to be purchased in your App Store account - what OS's have you already purchased? Many newer OS's are free, but you cannot purchase them now since Apple stopped selling them, you may be abe to acquire a download redemption code for some of them - ask at an Apple store or search the apple.com store

The 'hack' is called SFOTT (sixty four on thirty two - basically running a 64bit EFI on a 32bit EFI). It allows later OS's to run…

Obviously running unsupported OS's will leave you in a bad state if things break, but Apple have already abandoned support anyway. Backup everything should you decide to try it.

Otherwise do what Apple want - buy a new Mac
