Just looking to update necessary apps, to stay alive
Hello Allan, I have a 2007 quad core Mac-pro w/ 24" hd display, total 3-hardrives, with massive data storage, I have OS 10.7.5 Lion, and cant seem to go any further? I would like to include some basic safety, as far as system. Can you suggest any moves that I might try?
One of the major blocks seems to be that I never installed wifi, other than that I should be able to do something?
Any apps that claim they will clean your Mac, increase security or increase performance are lying and should be avoided.
If you installed OS X on your Mac then WiFi is installed. You might not have configured it.
Wifi doesn't matter provided you have ethernet networking that works.
Your Mac only supports 10.7.5 according to Apple. If you want to install a later OS you need to do extra 'hacks' that allow your Mac to run unsupported OS's. Obviously you need these OS's to be purchased in your App Store account - what OS's have you already purchased? Many newer OS's are free, but you cannot purchase them now since Apple stopped selling them, you may be abe to acquire a download redemption code for some of them - ask at an Apple store or search the apple.com store
The 'hack' is called SFOTT (sixty four on thirty two - basically running a 64bit EFI on a 32bit EFI). It allows later OS's to run…

Obviously running unsupported OS's will leave you in a bad state if things break, but Apple have already abandoned support anyway. Backup everything should you decide to try it.
Otherwise do what Apple want - buy a new Mac
