Q: iMac randomly wakes from sleep and screen comes on since updating to Sierra

Since I updated to Sierra yesterday, I have noticed today, that when I have put my Mac to sleep, at random intervals it will awake from sleep and the screen will come on.

I’ve had a look in the System Preferences/Energy saver and wake for network access is NOT ticked and neither is enable power nap.

Also I've had a look in System Preferences/Bluetooth and allow bluetooth devices to wake this computer is not ticked either.

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue and if so, have you found a fix for it?

Thanks in advance

I've found my old wired mouse and have now switched off Bluetooth.

I'll see if my iMac wakes up while I'm a sleep. I'll know if it does as it stays awake and I can hear the hard drive, fan when I go to go on it in the morning.

Thanks for the help. I couldn't make any sense of the Terminal log I posted.

Try turning off Bluetooth. Preferences > Bluetooth > Turn OFF.

I did this last night and my iMac did not wake at all, until I pressed the power button on the back a few minutes ago.

The only Bluetooth device that I have in regular use is the Apple Magic Trackpad 2, which I've owned for almost 1 year.

The other Bluetooth Devices that I use with my iMac (but these are not switched on/connected) are a pair of Bluetooth headphones and an Apple Magic Mouse.

Well, until Apple fix the issue, this is the workaround that you will have to use

So you think its a bug with Sierra causing it?

If it is, I might roll back to El Capitan until there has been a few updates to Sierra.

I think I'll flick the power switch off on my Magic Trackpad 2 tonight and see if the problem comes back. This would save me having to use the wired mouse and disabling the Bluetooth completely.

    Thanks.

    Yep, I think it's a Sierra bug.

Let us know if the problem returns tonight.

Yes, I will update this thread tomorrow if the problem returns over night, with the Magic Trackpad's power switch, switched off.

    Just to update.

I flicked the power switch on my Magic Trackpad 2 to its off position before going to bed last night and my iMac did not awake.

Not sure if this helps to determine what is causing the issue as it seems strange that leaving the trackpad's power switch ON would cause the issue as I have the setting in System Preferences to "allow bluetooth devices to wake this computer" unticked.

Just a thought but, perhaps tick the "allow bluetooth devices to wake this computer" box and see if the issue goes away, even with the trackpad's power switch ON.

In some cases the system actually crashes while sleeping and the panic that ensues has invariably pinpointed the Bluetooth driver. You were getting off lightly Anyway, it might pay to submit feedback to ye olde Apple informing them of your experience.  Got to http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html and let 'em know.

Thanks for the help. I've submitted my experience.

I'll update this post tomorrow morning with if ticking the "allow bluetooth devices to wake this computer" box has made any difference

    Just to update.

I left the "allow bluetooth devices to wake this computer" ticked yesterday and my iMac never awoke from sleep. So, I might as well leave this box ticked as it seems to have solved the problem

Thanks for all the help, its appreciated.

Thanks for the update. Here's hoping that's a solution.
