Best small-device podcast solution?

I listen to podcasts and I'm not sure my next phone (non-iOS) will have an adequate speaker as they all have smaller speakers than my current phone, and trying to have it go to external speakers in various locations has proven cumbersome.

I've been thinking of using my iPod touch for this, but its speaker is not great, and it's a big device to carry around just for podcasts. Is there an Apple device (even a past one) that is good for this?

If I can't get a good speaker, is there a device smaller than an iPod touch 4 that would be good for easily (or automatically) syncing podcasts daily that can connect to WiFi (so it will sync from iTunes) and output audio through Bluetooth?

5th gen iPod nano has a built-in speaker. The speaker is small by necessity, and not adequate for music. May be OK for spoken-word audio, and it's reasonably load. There's no "speaker grill" on the iPod; I think the sound is emitted from behind the click wheel. It's the only iPod (except for iPod touch) that has built-in speakers. You can set it up to sync podcasts automatically from your iTunes library, using the older type 30-pin USB docking cable.

FYI - It also has a video camera (takes videos but not photos) and a built-in microphone.

I guess you don't like using headphones... 🙂

It does not have built-in speaker, but the current iPod nano (7th gen) can be set up to sync podcasts automatically from your iTunes library. It does not have WiFi; it docks to computer using a Lighting cable. It does have Bluetooth for audio output. Here's the iPod nano support page and user guide, which describes usage
