Q: Touch ID finally working again

After upgrading from iOS 9.3.3 to 9.3.4, Touch ID stopped working.  I tried all of the suggestions that many people had (because they had the problem too) and none worked until just now.  I tried a hail mary with an attempt that I had not seen suggested yet.  Now my touch ID works again!!!  I am writing this so that others that are in the situation that I was in may find a solution here.

My specific situation is that my iPhone (6) would not let me enter any fingerprints.  When I tried, the phone went immediately to the failed screen.  Nothing would dissuade it from it's failedness.

Things I tried:

cleaning the screen and touch ID

rebooting (two buttons down until Apple logo appears)

deleting all old fingerprints.

backup to icloud, wipe the phone and restore from icloud

popping the sim card out and rebooting

a few more that I can not remember.

What finally got it to work.

I downloaded the 10.0.2 image directly from Apple (not through iTunes) and loaded it in via iTunes.

Search the web for direct download links.  Make sure that you choose the correct phone model, and download it to your computer.  In Itunes, hold the shift key down when you hit the upgrade button.  You will get a file open window.  Select the download and watch it do it's thing.

One word of caution.  When selecting a direct download link, make sure that it is a link to Apple.  I would not trust any other link.

As always YMMV.

Good luck,

Ephram
