Q: credit for unretrievable purchased music
hello - I purchased 28 iTunes songs ~ 7- 8 years ago under an 'old' Apple ID. (I've purchased many since that time with my current Apple ID, which I established during that time 7 - 8 years ago). In iTunes, those 28 songs are still 'associated' with that OLD ID - that is, iTunes 'asks' for the PW associated with that ID when I attempt to play any of them. And, accessing each song's profile via 'get info' (in iTunes), shows that each was purchased with the OLD. Now the rub. When I attempt a 'forgot password' routine for that OLD ID, the response is "ID is not a valid Apple ID". Hence, I cannot generate a new password. Three calls to Apple Support (I am an AppleCare subscriber) have resulted in confirmation that NO such ID exists in Apple's world.
I've made three calls to Apple support regarding this matter, and during each I've been told that I had established ANOTHER Apple ID 'in between' that OLD ID (the one to which the 28 songs are attributed in iTunes but that is NOT recognizable in Apple's database) and my current ID. Further complicating the situation is that I established only ONE (of the usual three) security questions when I set-up that 'tweener' Apple ID. (My fumble.) I don't recall the situation during which I set-up the tweener ID nor do I remember its password. I can, however, answer the single, quite obscure security question. But Apple's security policy requires TWO forms of personal verification and I can provide only ONE. I'm still 'stuck'.
I appreciate Apple strictly adhering to its 'two step' verification policy. And, there is obviously no path to get around it or obtain an 'exception'. However, this is a 'special situation' and I've been a loyal Apple customer. In the spirit of maintaining customer loyalty, I believe it's reasonable to ask Apple to simply grant me credit so that I can re-purchase those 28 songs. The result is that Apple's security policy and my loyalty both remain intact.
I believe I've exhausted all technical/security routes to solution. I welcome any alternative suggestions anyone may have. Many thanks in advance.
