Oct 2, 2016 3:49 PM in response to mshealy2by Rysz,Your iMac does support AirDrop.
To update OS X you'll have to do it in steps. First, on your iMac use Software Update in the menu. This should take you to OS X 10.6.8, which will install the Mac App Store application. Once that's done, launch it and use the Updates screen fo further compatible updates.

Oct 3, 2016 5:37 PM in response to mshealy2by babowa,★HelpfulThe short answer to Airdrop: No.
The longer answer: yours can run El Capitan; however, you will need to purchase Snow leopard (10.6) at the Apple store first. Update that and it will allow you to access the app store which is needed to download legitimate copies of the OS.
You cannot install whatever installers you have unless you downloaded them from your app store account as they are associated with/tied to the Apple ID used to obtain them. And, that license is not transferable. So, if it were actually possible to install them without the app store, you would be running pirated copies which will not allow you to update apps or reinstall the OS.
The only way to get to El Capitan is to purchase Snow Leopard and going from there. Make sure you have at least 4 GB of RAM or you will not be very happy with the performance of your Mac.

Oct 2, 2016 4:51 PM in response to Ryszby babowa,Thanks; I assumed the OP's question was: can I install Airdrop separately (since the OS installers weren't available)?
Can Airdrop be installed onto my iMac and would that do the trick

Oct 3, 2016 5:40 PM in response to babowaby mshealy2,This sounds wise. I'll check the RAM. The installers I have are on my App Store, so when I can get that onto the computer I should be able to access the upgrades. Thanks.
