Q: Change NAS icon in Finder (macOS 10.12 Sierra)

I have attached a WD PR2100 NAS to my Mac network. In the Finder, the NAS shows up as a Mac, and I'd like to change the icon to the xServe icon that the network uses for some other NAS devices. I have downloaded a .ICNS file of the icon I want.

At one point, an icon of this sort could be changed by opening a Get Info window on the NAS volume, selecting the icon in the upper left corner of the window, and then pasting in the desired icon. That doesn't seem to work anymore. I can select the Get Info icon, and I have verified (using the Finder's 'View Clipboard' command) that the clipboard contains the icon that I want, and that it is properly identified as an icon on the clipboard. However, after selecting the Get Info icon, the Paste command remains disabled.

I have also tried a variation that I found online: Select the Get Info icon, then drag the ICNS file onto it. It looks promising--the dragged file gets a green 'plus sign' badge as I hover over the Get Info icon--but the icon doesn't change.

Has the process been changed? How do I change the NAS icon? Thanks in advance.
