Q: how to manage ios 10 features on iphone 5s

I upgraded the software on my iPhone 5s to ios 10.

I can no longer access my home screen which has the icons I normally use the most.

Now, if I get any activity on my phone, which is constantly, I get 3 banners on my phone, a sports app, a calendar, and reminders.  I had 3 others but I got rid of them since they weren't apps I ever used (or heard of), like "upcoming maps".

Those remain on my home screen even if I have no reminder. I can't get rid of them. If I bang around, slide up, slide down, and press my home button enough times, I get a row of icons with a flashlight, timer, calculator and phone. The only way to get my phone is if I get a phone call. I can get a Messages if I get a message. If I continue to bang around, slide up, slide down, press home, eventually my home screen with icons will appear.  I would like to know how to get rid of these banners after I have looked at them. Either than or I will have to remove the app from my phone altogether.

Is there a manual or something?  I tried going to SETTINGS, and RESETTING . This did not help.

Its the round button (aka fingerprint sensor button) that you press just once. (one normal press) That press takes you straight home, and that's how you get home now, instead of the slide we were used to. (A press too long brings up Siri, so just a normal press-to-click)

(I too was locked out of my phone for 20 minutes it was really frustrating)

I have had ios 10 for two days -  it's not all bad, you can edit all the left-screen stuff where your notifications and shortcuts appear.. and make it close to what you would have liked to see.

I hope you come to love your phone again.

    Best, KA
