iOS 10 how do I wake on passcode screen?

IPad mini

I can't stand this extra step every time I want access. Not to mention, on my last iPad my home button died long before the the tablet itself. I don't need to speed its death.

iPad Mini, iOS 10.0.2

Hi. To avoid the Home button, swipe right to show the Today screen and tap a widget. That will bring up the passcode entry, then open the app. If you add Siri App Suggestions to the widgets, you can pick an app from there.
