Bootcamp partition missing after upgrade and partition removal

Hi,

After I upgraded to Sierra, I decided to delete a partition I created for the Sierra beta. I used Apple's disk utility in sierra to do that. Now, Bootcamp is not showing up when I boot using the option / alt key. And I can’t start into it. I see it in start up disk, but when I try to restart into it, it hangs, and then gives me an error that it can't find the drive. I forget the exact error message. but it looks like a windows error.

I can use parralells to load the install of windows, and it works great there, but can’t get bootcamp to work.

Can you use Re: Bootcamp partition missing at startup after macos sierra as a reference and update your MBR to be bootable?

You still have SIP enabled. Did you run the csrutil steps in Local Recovery?

Ok, you were correct, I did not run the csrutil steps in local recovery.

So, I restarted using the recovery partition, opened terminal, and did csrutil disable

After I restarted, I was able to follow the rest of the instructions in the link you provided, and it worked! I am now able to use my bootcamp partition like normal.

Please go back into Local Recovery and run csrutil enable. It will help protect the Mac a bit better. 😉

Remember to back up OSX, Windows and create a Windows System Restore point for future recovery.

Thank you. Can you recommend an app for backing up the bootcamp partition? Or thread that discusses how to best back up a bootcamp partition? Years ago, I used winclone, but It's been a long time. I'm not sure if that software still exists.

On a Mac, if you are already familiar with Winclone, I suggest you continue with it. They have recent versions which work with newer OS X versions. Be aware that such backups are not viable on PCs. You can also use the built-in Windows File History and Winclone, if you require additional redundancy.
