Should I purchase FCPX now if a new version may be on its way at the end of October?

I'm considering purchasing FCPX to upgrade from iMovie as I need to be able to work with multiple cameras and work with more than one PIP at a time. Beyond that I'm not a power user in anyway...

Anyway looking around I see rumors of a potential major new release being announced at the end of October. I know nothing of how the purchasing and upgrade of FCPX works so if I were to purchase now, might I be able to upgrade to the new version (assuming it's a major release) or would I have to pay all over again? Might I be better just waiting the four weeks until the end of the month?

What do you think?

Log into the App Store. Buy FCPX. Learn how to use the remarkably powerful new tools and efficiency gains over iMovie. Get to work. Invest another $50 to get Motion. You will be glad you did.

Whenever the update comes out (Macintosh rumors are a complete waste of your emotions and disruptive to your company's financial planning), it's likely to be a free download for registered owners. Realistically, this free update model cannot continue indefinitely. At some point, it's possible Apple will release a new video editing product that obsoletes FCPX. Absolutely no way for anyone to know.
