Q: are all the files in my documents folder stored both on the cloud and on my computer?

1. Are all the files in my documents folder stored both on the cloud and on my computer once I have selected the option to keep them on iCloud?

2. Is there a way to store folders on iCloud and have them not be held within my computer.. i.e. restricted only to the cloud.?

The way I would like it to be:

I would like to have most of my files kept on my computer & on iCloud,  so that when I'm not on WIFI I have the files available to me.

I would also like to use iCloud to store all my photos and videos without having to keep them on my computer. Is it possible to do that?

macbook pro, Mac OS X (10.5.7), null

The link that you sent me does not address my questions.

    I will rephrase the questions.

there are some files that I want stored on my computer and on the cloud so that I can access them from all my devices, but that I can access from my computer when I am offline.

There are other files (e.g. all my photos and videos) which I want to store exclusively online/oncloud because they take up too much space on my computer. How do I arrange each of these scenarios.

iCloud Drive isn’t set up to work like that. Anything that gets put into the iCloud drive is also stored on your computer. One minor exception are photos that are managed by Photos. With Photos there’s an optimize feature that will put a small thumbnail on your computer’s hard drive while keeping the original in the cloud but this isn’t iCloud Drive at work, it is Photos at work. Now if your videos were purchased from the iTunes store you can delete them from your computer and download them again later (assuming Apple still owns the license for them which is a gamble I won’t make). So the short answer, is “You can’t do that."
