Q: What hardware is causing my kernel panics

Okay, so this is a 2009 Mac Pro 4.1 that I had dropped in my lap. It runs, fairly stable until it has a load put to it. I have zero history on it as it was bought by a friend at a yard sale. Because I have no money in it, I'd have no problem putting a little cash into the right hardware to make a 12 core monster. Basically, if you apply any load you get a kernel panic. I have two logs now. One spin lock acquisition, and one freed zone element. I'll post them below.

Specs: MacPro 4.1 2.26x2

12gb ram (3x4 1066)

640GB HD

ATI 5870 (can't be stock)

Reset SMC.

Reset PRAM.

Same issue after a fresh instal.

Same issue with just one ram stick, tested for each stick.

AHT passes in simple mode, locks up in loop mode.

I may be missing something but you get the idea, it's not good.

Is there any way to determine if the fault is logic board or CPU related?

I can pick up the same CPU tray for about $500 on ebay, and the 2.93 six cores for another 160-200 or so.

This would be a beast of a machine even today, and I even have a GTX 970 laying around just waiting on a home. Anyway, I know it's hardware, and I expect apple to say hey, it's a logic board, but idk if that will actually fix it.

Thanks in advance for any help! Logs below.

Can't really tell but could be a disk problem since mdworker

BSD process name corresponding to current thread: mdworker

    is disk indexing.

    Run Apple Hardware test

Using Apple Hardware Test - Apple Support

You will need one of the original disks that came with the computer.

If you do not have it see:

    https://gist.github.com/drewreece/2e5eed7dbfbd5dd7e929

Also, it could be due to a software problem too.

You did not provide the complete panic report since it also includes the hardware in and connected to the Mac.

WHen does this panic occur? Try disconnecting all peripherals and see if it yo still have problems

Sorry it cut off the panic logs for some reason, i will update the post tomorrow. The only peripherals connected are keyboard, mouse and monitor. Passed AHT simple test and locked up on the full test. I suppose it could be a hard disk but I would be surprised, it crashes on any kind of CPU intensive task. Disk is easily tested though, I'll add it to my list.
