Q: Upgrading to El Capitan From Yosemite

I have a fairly recent MacBook Pro currently running Yosemite. I was going to upgrade it to El Capitan, but now it's offering me Sierra instead. I don't want to do this because of the risk that £500 worth of software (File Maker Pro 11, Final Draft 8, Office 2011) will stop working.

My desktop is running El Cap, and the above apps all work fine.

I see there is the facility to upgrade to El Cap, but it seems to be reserved for people running older versions. Do you think I can upgrade using that route? Or will it all go horribly wrong?

Thanks
