Time Machine stuck backing up from a RAID 0 dual SSDs to external WD

Thank you very much for your quick reply and availability.

The WD MyCloud disk automatically checks firmware updates every night at 4AM, and the latest installed firmware, from what I can see from its web interface, was on Sept. 21st, version v04.04.04-101.

I'd like to underline that I can regularly access to my files on it and works as expected. I see it in my shared devices and the partition dedicated to Time Machine can be seen inside Time Machine preferences.

The technician who upgraded my system told me that it is faster having 2 SSD disks with RAID 0 in place of 1 of the same capacity, in order to have 2 SATA connections at 3 Gigabits/second each (in place of 1) which can read and write at the same time. If he's wrong, I don't know. Anyway, that is the actual configuration.

I am going to try to do the backup on an external USB disk (I know it is faster because I used USB disks until last year, when I moved to the wireless one: I wanted my desk without wires and then I moved to the Western Digital solution, I don't mind about speed).

If you have other ideas, please let me know. I will update the discussion after giving a try to the USB solution.

P.S.: I am not using any antivirus.

P.S.2: I tried to verify the Macintosh HD and the operation was successful. No errors. I did the same with the external WD MyCloud disk with the same results.

just tried with a local USB external disk: same result, unfortunately. It got stuck at 37,30GB of 171,08GB this time. Always around 30GB anyway.

So I am strating to think that there is some kind of incompatibility between RAID 0 and Time Machine, which is strange because the same technician who upgraded my system has a MacBook Pro mid-2012 with RAID 0, and the Time Machine backup works both with the local USB and the NAS.

Ideas?

Yes, of course I was talking about the same OS, macOS Sierra. I understand that a late 2009 iMac is different to a mid-2012 MacBook Pro, even if they run the same OS, but let me say the whole thing remains strange indeed. It should work.

Thanks for letting me know there is nothing about Time Machine in the log, and yes, there is only one console, the one in the utility folder. This time I just put a filter in order to include errors only and those are the ones appearing while performing the backup.

I am waiting for a Apple tech to call me back (I opened a case and they sent me an app to gather all the logs which I have sent back to them) in a few days.

Hope they have a solution and can tell if Time Machine is compatible with my configuration.

I was told by the Apple Support to check the LoginDaemons and Extensions folder both in User/library/Extensions -User/library/LoginDaemons to check if an unsupported item was there and eventually was blocking the correct completion of the backup. After that, I wasn't able to complete it anyway, so I decided to reinstall the OS.

After that, with no apps installed, it went to an end. But with 70GB of pics in the photo gallery and about 10GB of apps (90% installed from the Mac App Store and the rest claimed compatible with Sierra by the developer - we are talking about apps by Rogue Amoeba like Airfoil and apps by Squirrels like AirParrot 2) it stopped again (we are always talking about the first backup, not incremental ones: to do the testing, I always deleted any previous backup and the TimeMachine preference file). I decided to leave the computer on and see what could happen: well, after almost 2 days, without doing anything, it started again and it was completed. The incremental backups are working as well.

If you want my opinion, it seems there is some bug concerning Time Machine in the first release of Sierra. I thought just for my type of conguration, but it seems there are problems with other ones as you are asking.
