Q: Airport Extreme cannot extend the wireless network in bridging mode

My Airport Extreme cannot extend the wireless network in bridging mode while the main base station is on a Time Capsule.

The warning light for the AE is amber on the Airport Config display with 1 red warning. It just says it can't connect. I have the same encription (WPA2 Personal) and same password and networkname (This is entered in the first and third tab of the config program).

The ethernet goes with an ethernet cable from my cable modem to the AE and then it goes on a fixedethernet as well  line to the TC. Just a string for access and the wireless sort of goes the other way but wireless imho.

Where do I do things wrong? Is it the cable config? Should I not string the AE/TC the way I do ?

    just some extra tidbits: I have DHCP and link local configured.

    Both software versions 7.6.7

    I repatched/reconfigured the ethernet cables: the TC connects its fixed line (the input) now directly to the modem while the AE also plugs in there. I could call this a forked connection, not a string.

    However, the Airport config screen still shows it as a string (M-->AE-->TC);

    So what I did to solve the connectivity problem, is make a new network, on the AE, in 2.5 and 5 Gb mode and now (alas with a second network name) I have full acces (tested 30 Mb/s) in the living room. The config screen displays it as a healthy forked access (the TC and AE are shown in parallel, forked).

    Still, if there are tips how to keep one bridging mode, I'll be happy.
