Q: Can't install Windows 10 on Bootcamp partition

#1

Hello!

I've just tried to install Windows 10 on my Macbook with a 32GB USB using Bootcamp. Everything was fine until I came to the part where I need to pick the partition where I want to install my Windows 10 and of course I've picked the Bootcamp partition but actually I couldn't click on "next" (I was so dumb and didn't formate it).
So I just formatted the Bootcamp partition and when I tried to click on "next" it just told me "We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one". I went through google and searched everything about this problem and there are a lot of guys having almost the same or exactly the same "error" when trying to install Windows 10 on the Bootcamp partition but nothing actually helped me. I've already removed everything except my USB and someone told me I should only have 4 or less partitions.
It shows me 4 partition but there are two partition (3) and two partition (1).
Is that a problem?
Here's a pic of my diskutil list: https://i.gyazo.com/f554fb8aac609c2420f55f9696fa06a6.png

Since english isn't my native language I'm sorry for my bad spelling.
I hope anyone may help me installing Windows 10 with Bootcamp!

Thanks a lot! :)

    Diskutil cs list: https://i.gyazo.com/18367398d1d5abc223d7232479959f08.png

I restarted my Macbook, pressed "alt" and there were 2 SSD and one Windows.

What does "diskutil cs resizeStack" actually do?

Isn't it possible to revert the commands above so I have my SSD and HDD seperated again and then just delete the BC partition and do a new one with more space?

resizeStack is the partitioning command for Fusion drives. Here is some additional information.

    diskutil cs resizeStack

    Usage:  diskutil coreStorage resizeStack

            lvUUID|MountPoint|DiskIdentifier|DeviceNode [pvUUID] size

            [part1Format part1Name part1Size part2Format part2Name part2Size

             part3Format part3Name part3Size ...]

Resize both a logical volume and one of its underlying physical volumes in a

single operation. A single physical volume is always chosen for the underlying

shrink or grow, even if the logical volume's logical volume group is backed by

more than one physical volume. If you do not specify a particular physical

volume, then one is chosen for you. Note that if this is a grow operation,

this verb is limited by the physical volume's partition's room to grow.

Specifying zero as the size asks for an "automatic" grow-to-fill operation.

If this is a shrink operation, you can optionally request that new partitions

be created in the newly-formed free space gap in the partition map.

Again, note that this only resizes one of the underlying physical volumes; if

you need more sophistication in managing your topology, you should use the

separate physical and logical volume resize verbs.

    Example: diskutil coreStorage resizeStack

             11111111-2222-3333-4444-555555555555 10g JHFS+ New 1g

Alright, I didn't use the resizestack command yet.

What do I need to do to revert the last 2 steps in the Terminal?

Is that even possible without re-installing?

I want to delete my BC partition to create a bigger one but would be kinda sad to also re-install macOS again

    1. Backup OSX.

    2. Remove the HDD from CS

         diskutil cs removeDisk TheLongStringAssignedToDisk1s2

    3. Disconnect HDD.

    4. Use BCA and Remove Windows from SSD.

    5. Re-install Windows on SSD with appropriate size.

    6. Add HDD back into CS

         diskutil cs addDisk

    7. Backup OSX, Windows

You will need to do this anytime you need to change the size of Windows partition.

    I'm getting this error: https://i.gyazo.com/3aa2fc1156dc11e9ec4eb882b67c706a.png

In addition to "diskutil cs removeDisk" shouldn't I also "revert" the "resizeStack" command?

Do not use resizeStack. This is a partitioning mechanism for a targeting a specific physical disk under the CS setup.

Revert does not work for a multi-disk Fusion drive. It can revert a single-disk CS to the underlying JHFS+ partition.

removeDisk should be done in Internet Recovery.

With Internet Recovery you acutally mean disk utility? So it's not possible to revert the current Fusion drive without deleting everything?

Also do I need to install some special drivers for a headset mic? Sound is working pretty good and also the intern mic of my Macbook is working and he recognizes when I plug in my mic but it's not working.

Internet Recovery is not the same as Disk Utility. Once a Fusion drive has been created, blocks of files can reside on both disks. You can removeDisk from a CS, but OSX will move blocks off of the disk being removed, which requires that there be enough disk space to put all blocks on the remaining disk(s) in the CS LV. If you attempt it in Terminal, while the device is busy (which it will always be), you cannot run removeDisk. There should be no disk activity on the CS to remove a disk.

Windows does not support TRRS headsets, but OSX does. If it is not working on OSX side, are you using a iPhone/iPod headset with a Mic or a third-party TRRS headset?

    Ah okay alright!

Something weird just happened. I was about to resart my Macbook to switch to macOS and after selecting my SSD I just got a "disbled sign" and couldn't do anything. Also when I'm typing "diskutil cs list" in Terminal I'm getting one SSD 200GB (where my macOS is installed) with status "offline" in logical volume group and one 200GB in physical volume.

I also can't see my SSD in disk utility and can't activate the HDD in there.

My Windows partition is working fine.

I'm using a third party headset (steelseries) and didn't test it on macOS yet. But it was working well on my Winows 7 PC at home!

You mean the stuff with "cmd+R"? I did it to use disk utility and terminal.

Yes, does Command+R work? Does Command+Opt+R also work?

Yes "cmd+R" is working. And also "alt" working, but when I choose the SSD where my macOS is isntalled I'm getting this "disabled sign".

What's "Command+Opt+R"? Never used that one.

Lets us try Command+R - Local Recovery. Command+Opt+R is Internet Recovery.

Start Utilities -> Terminal and run

    diskutil list

    diskutil cs list

Copy (Command+C) the output, exit Terminal, start Safari, Paste (Command+V) the output as a reply.
