Q: Battery draining fast - after Mac OS Sierra update

Hi, I am not able to figure out any cause yet, but my battery is dying real fast for the past few days since I upgraded to Mac OS Sierra. I could use my mac almost for 5-6 hours in a single charge but now its hardly staying for 2-2.5 hrs. Anybody experiencing a similar problem? I have been checking the activity monitor to see if any specific app consuming lot, but I don't see anything different from what I had earlier. Thoughts?

I'll wait for the 10.12.1 update, and if that does not fix this issue I'll revert to El Capitain

(The best OS X was Snow Leopard)

You might as well go back right now, OR you could try and figure out what is sucking the battery. It is easy to blame Sierra. Since most people don't have this problem it is far more likely that some software that is installed is not playing nice. If you make a clean install on a separate partition you are likely to find that the battery is not lasting less than before.

It's "easy to blame Sierra" because it IS Sierra! Your theory that "some software that is installed is not playing nice." is just meaningless. Because if there was NO PROBLEM before, with all the current software installed included, but then there IS a problem AFTER upgrading to Sierra, then it's pretty obvious that Sierra IS the problem!

I've given the solution on page 2 of this 'discussion' - it works.

I was getting battery drain when in sleep mode and discovered it was my external ssd draining it.  I only use it for Time Machine backups and a partition has a Sierra installer so i unplugged it and no more battery drain.

It's Sierra. My battery was nice, 11h to 12h with 90%-80%. Upgraded to Sierra, the battery starts falling just right after it. Didn't install anything different. Using the same software.

Also, I already tried the safe mode. It works just for some hours. The battery starts draining again. This is NOT a solution.

Your system was working well in El Capitan, and you chose to go back. Whatever suits you, fine.

You are dead set on the idea that it is Sierra.

You don't want the facts. There are millions upon millions of people using Sierra that have no battery problems.

A small number has battery problems.

You could do a clean install and see that the battery works fine in Sierra, but facts get in the way of your dogma: "It is Sierra".

You may stay in El Capitan forever and not accept the fact that some program that worked in El Capitan is not compatible with Sierra and you need to update or uninstall. El Capitan is a fine OS, by the way. I used it with pleasure for over a year.

    I am out.

Some of that same software is not compatible and needs updating.

Hi Guys. I only faced this problem on the first day after switching over to Sierra. Now, battery life as well as heating is normal and I did not change any settings!!
