Merging Two Email Accounts

I have a couple email addresses through Yahoo and SBC Global, both of which I am able to check in a single mailbox on yahoo.com while also being able to select from either address when composing an email.

However, I am unable to figure out how to set up my Apple Mail account to reflect my yahoo.com account. Currently, in Apple Mail, I have a separate SBC Global account and a separate Yahoo account. I set it up this way because it was the only way I knew of to be able to select from different email addresses when composing an email. The problem with this setup is the number of unread emails is doubled due to their being two identical mailboxes.

If possible, I would like to combine/merge the mailboxes while still being able to have two email addresses to select from when composing an email.

I hope what I am asking makes sense and someone out there will have a solution as I know I'm not the only person using multiple email aliases on the same Yahoo account.

Thanks, in advance, for any help you are able to provide.

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, OMMBoy.

If I’m understanding your post right, you're wanting to be able to set up your Yahoo/SBC Global account once in Mail, instead of having them set up separately, but still be able to choose one or the other when composing an outgoing message. I know from personal experience how convenient it is to be able to choose the account your emails are coming from, so I’m happy to help you find a solution for this today!

There wouldn't be a way to "merge" the email accounts in Mail like you mentioned, but fortunately that won't matter since it sounds like those two email accounts are already merged on the server side. So what you would do first is delete one of those email accounts from Mail so that only one is left. It shouldn’t make a difference which one you decide to keep. You can find steps on how to remove one of those email accounts in Mail for Mac: Set up Mail with your email accounts , specifically this section:

Remove an account

When you remove an email account from Mail, the account’s messages are deleted and no longer available on your Mac. Copies of messages remain on the account’s mail server and are still available (from webmail, for example).

Important: If you’re unsure whether messages you want to keep are still on the mail server, move or copy them to a mailbox stored on your Mac (the mailbox appears in the On My Mac section in the Mail sidebar) before you delete the account in Mail.

  1. Choose Mail > Preferences, then click Accounts.

  2. Select an account, then click the Remove button User uploaded file.

Note: If the account is used by other apps on your Mac, you’re asked to remove the account in Internet Accounts System Preferences. Click the button to open Internet Accounts, then deselect the Mail checkbox for the account. To stop using the account in all apps, make sure the account is selected, then click the Remove button User uploaded file.

Once you have one of those email accounts deleted, you are going to follow the steps in Mail (Yosemite): Use email aliases , to add the delete email address as an alias. Don't worry that the article shows "Yosemite", the steps are the same for Sierra.
