Can not control sound on/off and volume with my new (never used) EarPods on my iPhone 6s although they work fine with my wife´s iPhone 5s.
Tested with my wife's 4 years old EarPods and they work fine on both my iPhone 6s and the iPhone 5s.

sorry to say this but it did not help me with the problems.
In that case, if the instructions in the following support article do not help, I suggest that you contact Apple Support or make a Genius Bar reservation with a view to having your EarPods checked under warranty:

Hi again, since the EarPods works fine on my wife´s iPhone but not mine it looks more like an software problem.
If you take your iPhone and EarPods along to a Genius Bar appointment, Apple should be able to determine the cause of the issue.
Equally, if you contact Apple Support and there is a known software issue, they can advise you accordingly.
