Q: Glint not rendered to frames

I spent a lot of time getting the nifty glint filter just how I wanted it, only to find that the exported frames barely shows any hint of it. I am saving PNG files with the Export Image Sequence command. I have tried all possible combinations (render qualities, render options, pre-multiply on/off, etc. etc.), but I cannot get the exported frames to look remotely like it does in the application.

It looks like this in the Render window (with or without using RAM playback):

Screen Shot 2016-10-04 at 2.20.18 AM.png

The rendered frame (on a black background) looks like this:

awesome-11.png

How do I make it look like the render in the application? For professional software, I can't believe the output is so different than what is shown in the application. Also, the Dazzle effect on the text doesn't seem to look the same either - its much more bright than the exported frames.

Note if I choose to export it as a movie, the same issue occurs.

    tried both:

in Motion, by applying a color-solid

and in a paint.app (Pixelmator), as a separate layer, saved as .psd = Photoshop format; on  import to M5, when asked, layers ...

as pdf?? Never tried that, for me that's no 'working' format, just end of delivery chain…

    hold the line, please...

No, my test file, two layers, #1 with opaque elements, layer#2 all black, saved as pdf, does not import as separate layers and Glint has no effect at all .....

Karsten, did you try opening that file exported from Motion in one of those programs?

exported as png nd jpg, opened in Pixelmator and Preview - all same.

honestly? I get a bit lost

So, please help the old man over the road:

the OP uses pdf as. source.

that source contains transparencies => when I export a graphic WITH transparencies as .pdf, the resulting file does NOT transport/keep transparency!!

any file in png or layered psd format contains transparency, works with the glint filter, and glint is kept on export in any format.

=> my conclusion: that pdf is the culprit.

Try in Photoshop or any other suitable paint.app to convert into layers ...

final Q: pdf, cause you like to handle vector graphics in M5??

If I understand you correctly, that is why it works. As I have mentioned; if there is a black background in Motion it renders out fine. But then I don't have the artwork with transparency and it is useless to me with solid background in the exported frames.

Remove the black background in Motion and you will get the same problem I am having. Or are you able to use a black background and change just the background in an exported PNG to say solid blue or an image *outside* of M5?

Because all the artwork is drawn with vector in Illustrator. In fact, I was very surprised to learn that M5 flattens and rasterizes all vectors imported. Really a shame I loose all the layers and that it doesn't convert them to Shapes.

    ehm, no? Look:

a png with transparencies, in M5, no bg ...

the Glint is  a bit hard to notice, I gave it a green tint for better. recognition.

Exported that frame, as png, opened in Preview:

    Screen Shot 2016-10-07 at 08.20.45.png

    => works.

No, the issue is based upon two things:

transparencies in vector graphics - which exists, but is by definition nonsense

no (direct) vector support in M5 … that pdf-detour ...

uhm, well, video IS pixel … at some point there HAS to happen a conversion...

Wow - I stand corrected, thanks! I guess I will try bringing it in as a raster file. Seems like a bug with M5's PDF import though - as the alpha channel it creates works with everything else.

Well of course - but since the application has vector in it, and many of the effects only work Shapes, I just can't believe that vector wouldn't be treated as a shape. At some point the Shapes HAVE to have a conversion as well.

I'm afraid that won't help with the project I purchased Motion to complete.
