How do you delete the mail cache in macOS Sierra?

I haven't been able to empty my mail cache to update web images. I've tried emptying it like I did in Mavericks and it isn't working. In Mavericks I seldom had to even do it as it all. In Sierra I can't get it to clear?

Click on go to go folder type ~/Library find a folder named mail , caches are saved here only .

You can open mail > mailbox > erase deleted items on my Mac , in all accounts . Also can choose erase junk mail .

Thank you for the reply. While this is useful, I specifically want to delete my apple mail cache. I design email and have to update image fairly regularly, I can't clear the cache to see the updated image correctly. I used to be able to go to the following folder, but that doesn't appear to be working anymore.

~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.mail/Cache.db

That Cache is still there, but when I trash it, my images are not getting updated.

You are only deleting the database. You need to remove the files too.

Those additional things are part of the database, not the cache files.

wal is Write Ahead Logging and the shm file is an index to the wal that speeds access to it.

Deleting the actual database file will cause the WAL to be recreated along with its index.

Does deleting the WAL refresh the images for you as kfresh is asking?
