Q: alternatives to Android SMS for iChat?

I have been using the trial version of Android SMS for iChat for a while now and love being able to send text messages using the iMessage app on my Macbook. The trial version is very limited (only 5 messages a day) and it's an quite expensive app, $4.99/month, seriously??

So, I'm looking for alternative, ideally free apps?

Thanks in advance!!

    Hi,

In iChat and in Messages if you have an AIM account you can SMS to US Only numbers if they are on certain Carriers
Go to this page https://help.aol.com/articles/aim-for-mobile-receiving-aim-messages-as-texts-on- your-mobile and expand the "Does my wireless Carrier support IM Forwarding"

An Apple IDs ending @Mac.com (even if lapsed) @me.com if linked to iCloud and @icolud.com IDs can be used as AIM valid Screen Name.

You can of course register at AIM for free for an AIM based name.

You Add the Contact's Phone Number as if it were a Buddy Name.
Of course you can also create a Card for them so that the number is not the only thing that Shows.

This is a made up number given the Contact Name of SMS Test

If you wish to do it to anyone anywhere then you will have to get an iPhone and link the Messages app on that with your Mac version.
