Some Keys not working after Sierra Update (Only for specific profile)

After updating to Sierra my keyboard worked fine for awhile. But randomly, the U I O P J K L keys stopped working.

The bug only shows on 1 profile. If I create another profile the new profile keyboard works fine.

Anyone know what may caused this and with the fix is?

You probably have mouse keys turned on:

System Preferences > Accessibility > Mouse & Trackpad > unclick Enable Mouse Keys.

Hope this helps.

This solution worked for me. Darn I have had this problem for months, at last. Searched and searched.

This is the longest running problem I have had, I know it may seem a small thing but it's been such a headache having to rely on an external keyboard for so long.

So simple in the end, I know I may seem like an idiot but **** I am a happy one:)

Hello ExcelsiorPath,

After reviewing your post, it sounds like several keys are not working on only one profile. This sounds like an option that may have been changed. I would recommend you read this article, it may be able to help troubleshoot the issue.

If other keys don’t work

You may have accidentally set an option that changes how your keyboard operates.

  • Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Accessibility, then click Keyboard. Make sure Slow Keys is turned off. If Slow Keys is on, you must hold down a key longer than usual before it’s recognized.

  • Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Accessibility, then click Mouse & Trackpad. Make sure Mouse Keys is off. If Mouse Keys is on, pressing keys in the numeric keypad moves the pointer instead of entering numbers.

  • Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Keyboard, then click Input Sources. Select “Show Input menu in menu bar.” Open the Input menu, then make sure the correct keyboard layout is selected.

To see the keyboard layout, click Keyboard, then choose “Show viewers for keyboard, emoji, and symbols in menu bar.”

Hey ExcelsiorPath,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it seems that if it is confined to one profile we should boot into your profile using safe mode to disable other software to see if it may be a login or startup item causing this to happen.

Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up - Apple Support
Take care.
