I tried changing the haptic feedback settings but the noise persisted through every one of them. As I said before, the home button didn't always make this noise, it just started making it the other day. It sounds as if a metal component in the part of the taptic engine underneath the home button (possibly one of the actuators) is loose and causing some sound to leak whenever it vibrates. Is this a known issue that Apple is aware of, or am I a very rare case?

Thanks for that. Based on your description of the issue, if you feel there may be a physical or build quality issue with your new iPhone 7, you may want to have it evaluated in person at an authorized service provider, and if necessary, have it serviced. You may find the following page helpful:
