compass problems

My IPhone 5SE is now using OS 10 and the compass no longer calibrates when turned on - and it seems to point anywhere but north. Is this a problem with OS 10?

iPhone SE, iOS 10.0.2

Hi derekfrombeverley,

Thanks for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.

It looks like the Compass app on your iPhone 5 SE isn't calibrating after updating to iOS 10. This looks like a problem that we can troubleshoot.

First, try removing and reinstalling the Compass app using the steps in Remove built-in Apple apps from the Home screen on your iOS device with iOS 10 .

You may want to restart your iPhone between deleting the Compass app and reinstalling it from the App Store-- Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch .

If the same thing happens after reinstalling, try toggling Location Services off and on again at Settings > Privacy > Location Services.

You can also try toggling the Compass Calibration setting specifically, by going to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services.

Let us know if these steps help and we can offer some additional steps.

Sincerely.
