IOS 10 spotlight keyboard Automatically

Hi Folks,

One of the biggest IOS 10 Annoyances is the fact that they removed the keyboard when you swipe to the left to access the search field. Now you have to take an extra step and click inside the spotlight search field to perform this function. It used to be fast, simple and easy, and now it's an annoying two-step process. Is there a setting I can enable to fix this? I can't seem to find it anywhere, and google/forum searches are not pulling up anything.

Another Annoyance was the fact that they changed the home button unlock from rest to press in order to access home from lock screen. I found the fix for this under General > Accessibility > Home Button > Rest Finger to Open.

Hey you, I was having this same issue on my ipad mini on ios 10.3.3 and found your post from google search. I wanted to tell you that after a regular restart, pressing the sleep wake button swiping left to power down, and powering back on, I have my keyboard back from swiping down on the home screen(s). swiping left.....yep....that isn't included from apple on this OS. give the swipe down a try. its pretty nice! 🙂

I'm so glad you raised it. I tried numerous searches and it's hard to find with all the options that Google offers. Don't know why they added that extra step or how to undo it. After all, once you enter Spotlight, what else are you going to do if not begin typing an item to search for? What was Apple thinking?

So, I sort of have a fix for this. If you are on the home screen and want to do a spotlight search to bring up the keyboard automatically, swipe down, not to the left. Swiping down brings up your most recent apps and also automatically opens the keyboard for quick typing. Swiping to the left brings up Today screen as well as recent notifica.

Thanks Eric. You may be right for the iphone. Unfortunately, for the ipad (same iOS) it doesn't work, so the same annoyance. Hopefully they'll spot it and fix it
