I renamed/erased my old mac's backups.backupdb by accident.

I was going to backup my sister's mac and I accidentally renamed or erased my backups.backupdb in my external hdd. Now I can't find it in the trash. My old mac has not been working and that external hdd had my last back up. Is it completely lost?

If you deleted it:

Try a disk recovery app:

you may be able to download a demo of Data Rescue 4, and the demo will give you an idea of what it can recover. If it looks promising, you then can buy the software.

Just note that yo may have to manually restore specific data if the entire Time Machine backup can't be recovered sine the TM database may become corrupted

If just renamed try renaming it like it was before. If irt was renamed but you can't rename it back try manually restoring data
