Q: Can't find photos in iCloud

How do I automatically store photos in expanded iCloud

Photos I'd like to archive there, then share?

How, then, do I see them?

Photostream on

iCloud signed in

Windows machine see them easily

iPhone 6, iOS 9.3.5

OK, so iCloud Drive is not related to iCloud Photo Library. iCloud Drive is also a sharing service, but you would put documents and folders into iCloud Drive by dragging them there on your PC. iCloud Photo Library is houses photos that have been uploaded to it from your PC. Photos that you have uploaded from your PC can be seen in iCloud.com, but to see them in the Photos app on your device, you have to have iCloud Photo Library turned on on the device, and it has to have enough space to download the entire library (in either a full resolution or Optimized mode).

 

You have indicated that you do not have enough room on your device to download the entire photo library, so you won't be able to use it that way.

 

You can move photos into folders on your PC, then drag those folders to iCloud Drive.

    Hello tlfmd

     

    Have you activated the Icloud-Photo-upload iCloud Photo Library in the Icloud settings on your iphone?

    yes, and they are in the iCloud account as I can see them on my Windows10 machime

    iCloud says "no files" on iPhone 6

    did that twice, once I turned off the phone as the instructions said tap "delete" but there's no "delete" to tap, restarted and re turned on

    So you have iCloud Photo Library turned on in Settings>Photos & Camera>iCloud Photo Library turned on? You indicated you have Photo Stream turned on, but you need iCloud Photo Library turned on as well (it's not in your iCloud Settings, but rather in your Photos & Camera settings).

     

    Do you have enough memory on your phone to store the entire library that you have uploaded to iCloud? Do you have "Optimize Photos" turned on under Settings>Photos & Camera>iCloud Photo Library>Optimize Photos.

     

    If you don't have enough memory to store the photos, it won't download them. It's all or nothing.

    most frustrating is that my Windows 10 machine sees and can do things with them.

    But are you sure that you have enough memory on the device to hold the entire photo library?

    I don't, which is why I invested in additional storage, like dropbox, or like Windows when using iCloud.

    iCloud is still "no files"

    Where is it saying no files? Have you looked in the Photos app?

    Sorry, I'm confused. Above, you indicated that you could see them in your iCloud account in Windows, correct? So, where are you referring to when you say that "iCloud is still no files"? Where are you seeing this information?

     

    The additional storage that you purchased allows you to have more iCloud space to store photos or music as well as backups. However, it is not like Dropbox where you are archiving your photos. iCloud Photo Library is a sharing service, not an archival one. So, you upload all of your photos to iCloud. Then, you sign into the same iCloud account, and turn on iCloud Photo Library on all of your devices, and that then syncs all of the photos in the iCloud Photo Library to those devices. All are shared across the board. This allows you to view, edit, add, or delete photos and they are then automatically updated in iCloud Photo Library and across all devices.

     

    If you do not have enough memory in your phone to store all of the photos, then you won't be able to use iCloud Photo Library on that device. You would have to sync it to iTunes and select specific Photos, Events, Albums to sync with that particular device.
