Q: Camptune toasted my Bootcamp.  Recovery help requested.

I have a 2 TB hard disk on my late 2011 27" Mac.  Running El Capitan.

I had 750 GB for OSX and the rest for Windows 7.

I got a new windows machine and decided to shrink the windows to 750 and expand the OSX to 1.25 TB.

I tried to save some effort by using Camptune, but that turned out to be a bad idea.

Now, Bootcamp is gone, my machine can only see 1.5 TB of the existing 2 TB.

I would like to

1)  Have access to the full 2 TB.

2) See the existing Boot Camp.

I can trash the existing Boot Camp if necessary and start again, but I still want to get the full 2 TB.

Loner T helped me with a similar problem last year.

MS Data Number 5 had nothing.

The last MS Data had the attached screen shot.

I'll report back on the others.

The others had nothing there except "no partition found" or some similar message.  I keep forgetting to hit "P" instead of select.

Any ideas or perhaps I should toast the BC?

(I thought I posted this update the other day, but I must have been mistaken.)

I suggest removing Windows and cutting your losses and installing a fresh copy. Can you also institute a backup of Windows to a separate external disk after this installation?

Sounds like a good plan.  I've been using Box.com to store that stuff in anticipation of my new Windows machine, which is now live, so erasing this won't be an issue.

I agree that better backup plans make sense going forward.

Right now, I see that MAC only expects to have 1.5 TB when it refreshes.  It should have 2 TB.  I'll ping you on that as soon as I take care of the wipe.

I am not aware of the protocol on this, but I would love to send you a "propina".  I wanted to last time, but did not get around to it.   I greatly value your time, and I will be getting refund on 3 products from Paragon as I plan to use the money back guarantee in light of the issues experienced.

Please post back, if you need specific commands for wiping/cleaning. Remove BC/Windows using BC Assistant only. Do not use Disk Utility.

I also sent an email on the account you provided earlier.

Can you post the output of

    sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

    diskutil list

    diskutil cs list

We can then figure out why BCA could not restore the disk to a single volume.

Which Disk am I supposed to have highlighted when I run testdisk.  I have been using line 3, but perhaps I needed to use line 1?

    Ouch, in advance.

Use /dev/rdisk0 . I thought you were having trouble removing the current Windows partition via BC Assistant?

    1) Ok, I was using /dev/rdisk0, so our time in testdisk has not been wasted, even if it did not yield a recovery.

    2)  I dis try to remove using BC Assistant, and it failed to complete.

    3)  The post before the rdisk0 question has the answer to the questions that you asked regarding

    sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

    diskutil list

    diskutil cs list

If BCA is unable to remove the Windows partition, we can use a Time Machine backup/erase/restore method to get the disk space back. There is also a Terminal diskutil method, but we would need to delete Recovery HD, which will also destroy Local Recovery.

    So, what do you recommend?

I don't have my Mac Backed up, as it has always been a mostly Windows machine.

I can back it up now to get the ball rolling.  Sounds like I should attach a Hard Disk and use it as my Time Machine?  And then proceed with backup / erase / restore?

Take a look at the following links for a TM backup.

    1. Backup OSX and all your files - Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple Support .

    2. Boot into Internet Recovery (Command+Opt+R) - OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support .

    3. Click on Utilties -> Disk Utility and Erase your internal whole disk.

    4. Restore OSX and your files - Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple Support .

This requires a separate external disk which can accommodate TM backup - Backup disks you can use with Time Machine - Apple Support .

    Ok.  That's a good plan.

I am heading out for 2 days, so I won't get to do this until Sunday at the earliest.

Thanks for all your help and I will report back when I'm live again.

    Best regards!
