Q: Menubar clock freezes after resume from sleep

After upgrading to Sierra, I noticed that the menubar clock (top right corner) would show wrong time.  This happens after the iMac resumes from SLEEP.  When I hoover the mouse pointer over the clock, it would turn into a spinning ball (i.e. no response).  I have to logout and re-login in order for the menubar clock to show the correct time.  It would continue to work until the next time the iMac resumes from SLEEP.

Anyone facing this same problem?

iMac, macOS Sierra (10.12), Menubar Clock

Have you tried booting in safe mode (hold down shift while booting)? Does the problem still occur?

If you create a new user account, does it happen?

Problem seems to be caused by Synology Cloud Station Drive menubar icon.  The NAS sync was ongoing (large directory) and the corresponding menubar icon must have caused the freezing of the menubar clock icon.  I stopped the NAS sync and now the menubar clock icon problem is resolved.

    Update to this issue.

The menubar clock froze on me again over the weekend.  Did not do anything new ... just basically surfing the web.  Found the clock froze since 8 Oct (only notice on 9 Oct evening).  So it's NOT Synology Cloud Station issue.

Is there anyway to capture some kind of system log that may shed some light on issues like this?

I have this problem too. It doesn't happen every time my Mac goes to sleep, but has occurred multiple times. I can't tell what's causing it.

Not only do I get a beachball on the clock, but on all of the Apple-native icons (Wi-Fi, Sound, Airplay, Time Machine, Notifications) in the menu bar. Third-party application icons, interestingly enough, function normally. I've called in to Apple more than once about this but at this point I am just starting to suspect it's a bug in Sierra.

By the way, restarting my Mac always resolves the issue, but of course it still shouldn't be happening in the first place.

The freeze happened again this week ... No obvious reason what caused it since it's intermittent.  I logout and login to the account and the freeze would go away (no need reboot).  Looks like a Sierra bug definitely.

Totally agree. I spoke with a Senior Advisor who had me reinstall the OS to see if that might help since Disk Repair did nothing. I mentioned this discussion so they know I'm not the only one. We'll see if this reinstall fixes the issue.

Froze again this morning at 12:01am ... I am going to log down the time of occurrence just may be there's a trend.  I am also downloading Sierra Installer now to try to do a reinstall.
