iPhone 6 ear speaker sounds muffled even after replacing the speaker piece.

I recently upgraded my phone to a new iPhone 7 and gave my iPhone 6 to my mother. She informed me that the ear speaker was sounding muffled and the phone calls sounded like "the other person was in a tunnel). I purchased a replacement ear speaker and installed it however the muffled sound still remains. The warranty on the Iphone 6 is way past its warranty but I wanted to see if there were any options besides buying a completly new phone or sending it off for weeks?

It seems that you are referring to the receiver. That part is very delicate and the repair rarely works. Usually it's better to replace the entire display. If that's not the original display and you take it to Apple for a repair they won't service it due to unauthorized modifications. If you put the original part back you can take it to the Apple Store and have the display replaced in a matter of hours at a cost. AppleCare will also help you ship it for a repair and the turn around time is 3-5 days.
