Q: Windows on Bootcamp Hardware Drivers

Hi,

When Windows 7 is finally installed it looks like it lacks networking drivers and so it is unable to get online. Is there something that I can do to get the drivers to it ahead of time?

A:

Download the drivers specific to your Mac year/model from Install Windows 7 and earlier on your Mac using Boot Camp - Apple Support and run setup.exe from the Bootcamp folder on the Windows side.

I am in the process of downloading now. And it looks like it is downloading with Boot Camp 5 edition. Mine is version 6 on MBP mid 2012. Hopefully that won't be a problem.

W7 uses BC5 drivers. BC6 drivers only support W8.1/W10. Sierra no longer supports W7.

So when I upgrade to Sierra would I need to go through the Boot Camp process again to install W8.1/W10 or can I just update the Windows partition?

You can upgrade W7 to W8.1/W10. Be aware that W7 cannot be installed on Sierra, as it is no longer supported.
