audio interface drivers not working

I have an M-audio profire2626 audio interface that i have had for several years and the company has stopped supporting the driver, the new OS sierra wont load the driver. M-audio are not very helpful and to be quite honest they wont be seeing my money again, but what am trying to understand is why does this happen?

it seems strange that some companies drivers have not needed updating (i say this only in regard to audio interfaces) and others do, M-audio seems plagued by this problem.

I would like to find out more about how drivers work and why some companies seem to struggle more than others, with OS updates becoming more frequent it seems that the best way to insure your self against this is to under stand the problem and what are the solutions.

if any one could be generous enough to point me in the right direction I would be extremely grateful.

FWIW, your question is a bit beyond the intention of the Communities and would be more suited to a Developer forum. However, basically Apple products expect a class compliant device…

A class compliant device is one that doesn't require extra drivers to connect your Windows or Macintosh computer, or to your iPad. Class compliant devices use drivers which are built into the host (i.e. the computer or the iPad) operating system.

The problem is when a manufacturer creates their own drivers, they have to rewrite the drivers every time an OS is changed. Some don't want to bother, some don't have the time or resources, etc.

Hope this helps a little.

I too have the Zoom Tac-2 interface and was curious if it would work with Sierra. But before updating, I contacted ZOOM through email, their support team told me to hold off on updating to the latest OS as they were still testing. They said they would post the new driver on the Tac-2 product page online if and when they release a new driver. Now it's just a waiting game...

ZOOM released the TAC-2 durring an earlier version of OS-X, so they have yet to update their drivers. Mac OS Sierra has not been out for very long so I would expect a new driver from ZOOM very soon. I am not affiliated with ZOOM, I'm just going by what they told me in a response after I contacted their technical support about the matter. If they don't provide a new driver within the next 30 days, I would then start to worry a little. Unfortunately, this delay in driver updates from third party hardware/software developers is very common after an official Apple OS release. A 2-4 month wait is typical.
