Q: El Capitan Email Dock Behavior

Since upgrading to El Capitan clicking the Mail icon in the dock no longer opens e-mail in-box/mail program. Instead clicking on mail icon opens most recent e-mail opened (read or drafting). To access mail inbox from dock icon 1. no emails can be open or 2. must right click and select inbox from all open e-mail files (inbox + emails).

This is a departure from previous dock icon behavior which opened inbox on single click - and would allow email selection on right click. As someone who typically has 10-20 emails open/minimized this is very inconvenient.

Have searched forums/boards but most have been consumed w/ other, more significant email challenges >OS upgrade. Is there a setting change that can be made? Or terminal entry? Is this a known issue?

Any direction most appreciated.

Thanks. G

    Good morning, GUUU.

From your post, after you upgraded your MacBook Pro to El Capitan, the Mail app isn't working as you'd expect. Instead of it opening to the Inbox, it opens up to items that were left open the last time it used it. I'll be glad to help.

OS X El Capitan: Quit apps -- In the menu bar, when the app is active, choose App Name > Quit App. For example, choose Mail > Quit Mail. Re-open it again while holding down the Shift key. This will clear the Mail app's cache to make sure it opens correctly.

Try safe mode if your Mac doesn‘t finish starting up -- Start your MacBook Pro in safe mode and test. Starting in safe mode is a great way to make sure everything's starting up correctly. Afterwards, restart your Mac normally and test here as well.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities and take care!
