I hate hate hate the new widget screen installed when I upgraded to IOS10. According to the Apple Chat, there is no way to remove this. I would not have installed IOS10 if I had known this would happen. Accessing my home screen is now twice as hard and this new widget screen is very, very annoying. Apple should ask folks before they pull a stunt such as this, especially with no way to un-do it.

It only appeared when I upgraded to 10. It wasn't there before.
Go to Settings>General>Accessibility>Home Button>Rest Finger to Open and set it to on. If you're using Touch ID, you may find you like the behavior better.
I was going to suggest the same thing, but somewhat weirdly having turned that option off again I find no discernable difference, which is why I asked for specifics. 😕

I'm a firm believer in the placebo effect.
I must have searched for and set that option for some reason, it is just that having set it back the iPhone still seems to open with one press of the home button. What was it doing before that I objected to? 😕

If your using Touch ID, you don't have to press. You just rest your finger on the Home button. It seems a little bit more like iOS 9.
