Q: after downloading El Capitan, wheel spins constantly
after downloading El Capitan, wheel won't stop spinning and have no access to computer. What do I do? It has spun for 3 hours.

Thanks for upgrading your Mac to OS X El Capitan! If the download seems to be stuck for a few hours, try forcing the Mac to shutdown by holding the power button until it shuts off. You can then try starting it back up into safe mode. Also, please check your internet connection, if you can connect the Mac directly to your router via ethernet cable, this wold speed up the download process.
Try safe mode if your Mac doesn‘t finish starting up
If the download does not progress in safe mode, you can delete the El Capitan installer from your downloads folder in the Finder app then try downloading os Sierra instead. macOS Sierra
