Hello everyone,
I recently purchased the iPhone 7 Plus outright through Apple online store. I just wonder whether or not my iPhone is unlocked. I tries to put an Apple sim card (came with the iPhone) in the phone and it shows "invalid sim card".
So, is my phone locked to Tmobile ?
Please help me.

If you purchased the phone outright, it should be unlocked. However, you might need to call T-Mobile to get it activated.
Apple does not have SIM cards. A SIM that comes with a phone is provided through the carrier. If you purchased a T-Mobile phone, it should be unlocked, but it should have come with a T-Mobile SIM. What SIM are you trying to use, because the T-Mobile and AT&T phones will not support CDMA networks.
Thank you for your reply, I actually activated this phone with a tmo sim card. However, when I put the Apple sim card in (just to check), it shows "invalid sim card".
What Apple SIM? Where did you get this SIM. The only Apple SIM is the one for the iPad, which is a data only SIM, which will not work in an iPhone.

That is a carrier SIM, not an Apple SIM.

Then that is something new. I've not seen that before. I would not know what that is then. The only Apple SIM that I have been aware of are the ones in the iPads that allow one to activate on certain cellular carriers. Sorry for the confusion. That may require you to make a call to Apple Support for an explanation.
when I purchased the iPhone 6S Plus from Apple store last year. It also came with a pre-installed sim with Apple logo on top.
Well, that statement made me want to check my device. I've purchased from Apple for the last few years, but I've purchased an AT&T device. But with the Apple Upgrade Program, the phone is unlocked. I turned my phone off, then popped out the SIM. It is an AT&T branded SIM, and I know that nothing was changed at the Apple Store, because I watch the entire process. That would mean the AT&T device comes with an AT&T SIM. Maybe someone else has experienced what you are saying and can add to this.
I just contacted Apple yesterday. They recommend me to restore the iPhone (by plugging into iTunes) before switching to a new sim to update carrier setting. Mine is indeed unlocked because I purchased the phone outright from Apple store.
When you restore the device in iTunes, if it is truly unlocked, you will get a Congratulations message after the restore. You will see that in iTunes.
I believe the "Apple SIM" is a programmable SIM. It probably won't be seen as a 'valid' SIM until it's configured by Apple, which they may not have done at purchase given the circumstances.
I didn't know they were including them with iPhones, I thought it was strictly an iPad thing...
That was my understanding, and that was what I mentioned to the OP at the start. My belief was that it was a data only SIM, and couldn't be used in the iPhone.
