Q: What is the speed lose with OS 10.10 on 13-inch, Early 2009

My 13-inch, Early 2009 MacBook is running with OS 10.9.5 basically OK as to speed, and it is a very good one, loaded with fine software so it is useful but getting old and slow at times with all the extra popups and sidetracking and is very jumpy on links I do not want and mail I did not want to delete.

The system is pushing me to upgrade/update to 10.10 and I keep resisting Apple pushing, for the fear of loosing what I have and am actually happy with.

I was looking for the answer among existing similar concerns, but did not get the simple clear answer of what will I gain by the new OS 10.10.

So is my fear real or just fear?!

MacBook, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

Apple has removed 10.10.5 and 10.11.5 from the App Store so your only upgrade option is 10.12.

To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.

macOS 10.12 (Sierra) requires one of the following Macs:

MacBook (Late 2009 or later)  Model 6.1 or higher

If your model number is lower, you can upgrade to El Capitan using the link below.

       El Capitan

Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported after 10.6.

Also check to make sure there is a compatible driver for your printer.

Do a backup before installing, preferable 2 backups on 2 different drives.
