How do I change my default Mail account on iOS 10?

I recently upgraded to iOS 10 and suddenly I do not have the option to select a default email address in my Mail settings.

All help guides that I could find online are for older iOS versions. They say to navigate to Settings -> Mail -> Default Account; but there is no such option in iOS 10 that I can see.

If someone can guide me to the correct location to change this setting, it would be great!

Thanks!

iPhone SE, iOS 10.0.2

I had this issue too and just came across the answer related to this problem in apple forum. It's the answer from another forum user @ALR11

"Default Contact will only be visibe when there are more than one contacts group. If you have just iCloud contacts added, then this option won't be visible. If you add another contacts say for eg., gmail contacts then the Default Contacts will become visible. I had this problem yesterday, I added another contact group & Default Contacts became visible for me."

The original post is here, hope it can help.

Missing setting for contacts: default account

Feb 5, 2017 6:31 PM in response to matthewsc10

I have a somewhat similar problem. I have 4 e-mail accounts setup on my iOS 10.2.1 iPhone. I have the default setup to be my @me.com account. The other three accounts are my gmail accounts. Today I sent multiple photos (one per message) using the "share" feature of photos on the phone, and all the e-mails I sent came from one of my gmail accounts. This is really strange (and confusing to my recipient). I then killed the photos app and restarted it and sent another photo using "share" and it was sent from the correct e-mail address. Any ideas?

This is so annoying, upgraded to IOS10.3.2 on ipad2 & iPhone5, both of which now default to my iCloud email address.

In settings/mail/composing the option for 'Default email' setting is simply not there. I have done everything possible to correct this, all to no avail - these are actually my wife's devices and of course she is blaming moi!

Help please

Found a fix: I also did not see the option to set something as default. My problem was I needed two email accounts set up in the "Mail" section. If I went into mail, I saw both of my accounts (work and Gmail) but when I dug into the Gmail, I only had contacts coming over not mail. This is because I use the "inbox" app from Google for my gmail. I could not set that as my default account because the iphone was not set up to send messages from that account. I had to turn that on. Once I did that, I saw the option at the bottom of Mail>Settings and was able to set the default to Gmail.

I've had the same problem for a long time. I use other email apps as well and the Mail app for my work email being that it an exchange account. How I fixed my problem seems a bit odd but it worked.

Go to:

Settings>Calendar>Default Calendar> choose the email of choice.

Make sure that the "Calendars" toggle is ON for your email of choice in Settings>Mail>Accounts

I tested mine out and my out going emails were from my mail account via the Share option.

I also added my preferred default account as an account in Settings>Mail>Accounts> Choose wanted email and make sure "Mail" toggle is on.

Go back <Accounts<Mail< you should now see the Default Account Option at the bottom of the page.

I hope this works for you all!

I was missing the default email account line as well, but figured it out.

I stopped using iOS email add my app of choice and I removed my personal account from email preferences and left my work email, but forgot I had done so since I was able to see both accounts in my new email app which doesn't use the settings->mail account settings.

Once I added my second email account back in for settings->mail, the default setting appeared.

I didn't want the ios email app downloading my emails in addition to my new one, but that appears to be the only way to make this work at this point.
