Using an external microphone to record audio on iPhone

Hoping someone can help me!

I have a Coles 4104 Lip Microphone that I use for recording audio when speaking. For many years I have had to cart a laptop around with me, as I can only use it using a USB to XLR cable that syncs into the audio program Audacity.

I have purchased an XLR to 3.5mm cable, and a Headphone and microphone splitter that plugs into the headphone jack on my iPhonr. When coming to test out the splitter and microphone the voice memo app and others tested picked up only the built in microphone.

Is there any way at all I can use my microphone for audio recording through my iPhone?

iPhone 6, iOS 10.0.2
