Oct 7, 2016 10:23 AM in response to edfrombuffaloby Eric Root,Do a backup, preferably 2 on 2 separate drives.
Quit Mail.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Go to Library/Containers/com.apple.mail. Move the folder com.apple.mail to your desktop. You must move the entire folder, not just the contents.
Restart, re-launch Mail and test. If the problem is solved, recreate any required Mail settings and import any emails you want to save from the folder on the desktop. You can then put the folder in the Trash. If the problem remains, return the folder to where you got it replacing the one that is there.
If that doesn’t solve it repeat the above using Containers/com.apple.MailServiceAgent.

Oct 7, 2016 4:43 PM in response to Eric Rootby edfrombuffalo,HI,
Thank you but it didn't work; However, when i tried it with MailServiceAgent, it did not create a new version upon reboot.
Should I put the old one, now on the desktop, back into the container folder and reboot again?
Do you think upgrading to Sierra would fix this?
thanks,
Ed

Oct 8, 2016 10:15 AM in response to edfrombuffaloby Eric Root,You are welcome. Put the file back and reboot. You can try running the combo update if you want. Next step would be to reinstall the OS from the Recovery Partition, or upgrade to Sierra if you want to do that.

Oct 9, 2016 2:28 PM in response to Eric Rootby edfrombuffalo,So I tried to install the combo update and it says I don't have the requirements to do so, kinda like when it says I don't have room for the mail update-I have a 2tb drive with 1.9 of space-what's making it appear smaller, or....I dunno. Thanks
