Oct 7, 2016 10:32 AM in response to achilds_IOSby alex_h1,Hey achilds_IOS,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. I can see from your post that your iPhone and Apple Watch are not audibly alerting you when you get a text message. I can understand how important it is to hear notifications and want to help you get the most from your device and all of its features. The following information includes some options that can help get this working again. If you haven't already, let's try restarting both the Apple Watch and iPhone 6s.
You also mentioned that neither devices are on silent mode. Let's also make sure that your device is not on Do Not Disturb as well. The link below can show you how to disable and verify that Do Not Disturb is not on a schedule.
Use Do Not Disturb on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Let us know if these steps work for you.

Oct 7, 2016 11:39 AM in response to alex_h1by achilds_IOS,Hi alex_h1,
Thanks for the reply! Do Not Disturb both Manual and Scheduled are off. I had tried restarting both devices so I reset all the settings on the iPhone and that got me text notifications on the watch but the not the phone. If I get a call, there's sound for that phone and watch, just nothing on the phone for texts or emails. Really weird.

Oct 7, 2016 12:01 PM in response to achilds_IOSby Gerald Edgar,I recently thought my incoming text alerts were not happening. But in fact the alert was merely a single bell, which i didn't notice. I changed it to something more noticeable, and I'm fine.
So: try changing your choice of alert, and see if it comes back?

Oct 7, 2016 12:20 PM in response to Gerald Edgarby achilds_IOS,Hi Gerald,
Thanks for the suggestion. Mine's set to Aurora.
I did just discover something though. I get the alert sound if my phone is unlocked. If it's locked, I don't. Do you know what setting that is? I don't see anything in settings about sounds when locked. In notifications I have messages set to allow, to show in Notification Center, have a Badge App Icon and Show on Lock Screen.

Oct 14, 2016 12:14 PM in response to achilds_IOSby benjaminwheaton,I'm having the exact same problems. My iMessage alert sound comes through just fine when my phone is locked, but not text message alerts. I have an iPhone 6 plus, running iOS 10.0.2 and I'm fully cleared on the silent switch on the side, do not disturb etc, not those issues.

Oct 14, 2016 12:19 PM in response to benjaminwheatonby achilds_IOS,I called apple support and my issue wasn't really an issue because of the Apple Watch. If the phone is locked I get alerts on the watch and, if the phone is unlocked, I get alerts on the phone and not the watch. I don't think it always worked this way but maybe I just never noticed until my Watch alerts weren't working.
Maybe the same thing with iMessage. Again...I'd swear it didn't use to work like this.

Oct 14, 2016 12:22 PM in response to achilds_IOSby benjaminwheaton,I don't think it's a watch issue, I bet it's a bug in the new IOS. Something along the lines of we've turned on Do Not Disturb, then turned it off again. I bet some line of code has messed up turning the notification sounds for text messages back on. It's really frustrating. My phone even stays dark when a text message comes in.

Oct 14, 2016 12:25 PM in response to achilds_IOSby benjaminwheaton,That's why I feel like it's connected to DND, though I can't recall if my phone lights up with a new message notification when I have DND on, so I could be wrong too, but there is definitely some bug here

Oct 14, 2016 12:32 PM in response to benjaminwheatonby benjaminwheaton,So I just confirmed it's for all messages, not just text messages but iMessage too. No light up, no sound nothing for text messages and iMessages too.
