Q: I recently updated to an iPhone 7.  When I connect my phone to my MacBook Pro, it will not connect.

When I try to connect my new iPhone 7 to my MacBook Pro, it will not connect.  I'm unable to transfer photos from my phone to my MacBook.  First I get a message on my phone asking me if it's a trusted computer.  Then I get a message in iTunes saying, "iTunes could not connect to the iPhone "iPhone" because an invalid response was received from the device.  And I get a message in iPhoto saying, "Photos in the Camera Roll of "iPhotos" cannot be imported because the device is locked with a passcode."  (I have all the passcodes off so I know there is no passcode).

    Hey Karen-Lindenhurst,

Thanks for being a part of Apple Support Communities.

I see you've just purchased a new iPhone 7, however iTunes is telling you an invalid response was received from the device.  This error message indicates that the version of iTunes installed on your Mac is out of date, since iOS 10 requires iTunes 12.5.1. Please be aware that this version of iTunes requires OS X 10.9.5, so you might need to update your version of OS X if your Mac is on a previous version.

Get the latest version of iTunes

    • If your Mac doesn't meet the Sierra requirements, you might be able to upgrade to El Capitan, the previous version of the Mac operating system.
    • If you previously downloaded El Capitan, Yosemite, Mavericks, or another earlier version of OS X, you can download it again from the Purchased tab of the App Store.

    Take care.
