Q: iPhone 7 Plus telephoto camera not working

Is anyone having problems with the iPhone 7 Plus telephoto lens not activating. I'll go to the camera app and hit the 2x zoom feature but it is appearing to not be activating the 56mm camera on the front. I'm covering the lens with my finger, the camera on the right hand side and the iPhone still displays a picture despite me covering up one of the teo cameras. I just can't get it to activate the second camera. it appears to only be digitally zooming. I'll be doing this outside and it'll only digitally zoom when I cover up the second lens.

it only works in bright conditions. and that the focus point may not be too close.

try it outdoors and with an object that is farther away. I hope things work out! write when you tried

I noticed the same issue until I came here and read Wallen83's reply.  I tried facing the camera to a ceiling light and it switched automatically to the telephoto camera then i covered the telephoto camera again and a second later it switched back to the wide angle camera until i removed my finger.

Thank you so much for your help Wallen83.

I Have just done the "test" you have mentioned and can assure you mine works as it should.

maybe look at doing a forced reset? Or fresh iOS install..

It appears that Wallen83 is correct. The focus point can't be too close to the lens in addition to having enough ambient light. Although ambient light shouldnt matter a whole lot when switching lens type. Hopefully apple will address  this in the future and maybe not require a minimum ambient light conditions in order to use the telephoto lens. Additionally, when I was using the telephoto lens, it appears that the wide angle lens also assists in selecting the appropriate exposure setting. Thanks for the tip!

The telephoto lens will work only in good light conditions.
