"Photos in the Camera Roll on "iPhone" cannot be viewed or imported because the iPhone is locked with a passcode."

Hi, all and thanks for reading.

I have a problem, and cannot get my photos off my iPhone, ... using iPhoto 08, on my Mac OS X 10.6.8.

I normally download my photo's in the iPhone 5, camera roll, using iPhoto 08, and usb plugged into MAC.

All of a sudden my iPhoto 08 is blocked by iPhone password.?

I get this message.

"Photos in the Camera Roll on "iPhone" cannot be viewed or imported because the iPhone is locked with a passcode."

"You must enter your passcode on the iPhone to view and import them."

I am thinking it may be since my new iphone update a few weeks ago ... I think ... but not sure.

Worked perfectly a few weeks ago, and pretty sure did not update any mac programs, just iPhone.

Photos in the Camera Roll on "iPhone" cannot be viewed in iPhoto, or imported because the iPhone is locked with a passcode.

So I unlock the iPhone, same message.

So I removed my iPhone lock. Restarted Mac, plugged in, opened iPhoto, and got the same message.

I read online numerous fixes, including the "trust a computer", but none work.

One was to open itunes. But when I open iTunes, I now ALSO get a message ... iTunes could not connect to the iPhone “iPhone” because an invalid response was received from the device.

Apple advice is to make sure I have the latest version, this is the problem, but I have the latest version. 11.4.

I have a Mac OS X 10.6.8 and a iPhone 5. … iPhoto 08. I cannot update to a newer system, or programs for numerous reasons. Please don't recommend.

Any help appreciated.

So, based on what you have written, your device not recognized in iTunes issue may be related to the iTunes version you are running (and the iOS version on your device).

Are you running iOS 10 on your device? If you are, then you must run iTunes 12.5 or higher in order to connect your phone to iTunes. And you need iOS 10.9 or later to do that.

iPhoto is the other issue. iOS 10 works with Photos but I'm not sure it will still work with iPhoto. Or, it could be that you simply need the updated OS X for any of it to work.

Your best bet is to update your OS X if you can to Mavericks or higher, then update iTunes to 12.5.1. With the later OS X, you will see the new Photos app, and your iPhoto Library will automatically import to Photos. You will still have those photos accessible in iPhoto as well, so you can go to the Preferences on either Photos or iPhoto and set that version up to do the import and then see how it goes.

Best of luck,

Unfortunately, I don't think you are going to be able to access your Photos Library with the updated iOS. You definitely cannot access your iTunes Library with it.

You can still back up your device to iCloud. And you can always re-download any of your iTunes purchases.

You might want to look into uploading your photos from your Mac and your phone to an archival cloud service like Dropbox or Flickr.

Sorry and best of luck, 😟

Is your Mac unable to run a newer OS X? Because that is what will be required in order to do what you specifically are asking to do. OS X 10.6 is 5 releases behind the most recent OS X not including the new OSMac Sierra. Apple as well as Google among others no longer support Snow Leopard. So, it is just not going to be able to work with the latest and greatest changes on your iPhone or other interactive devices that require the OS to function.

Sorry, but if you cannot upgrade, then you are going to have to use a different alternative. Automatic import to Photos is not an option. I would have suggested that you could, alternatively, use iCloud Photo Sharing, but the level of your OS X doesn't even support iCloud, so that's out.

Best of luck,

GB
