Oct 6, 2016 7:44 PM in response to mikestidhamby Grant Bennet-Alder,The Mac Pro dark cylinder has four RAM slots. You can install DIMMs by the each. If you choose to install matched pairs in adjacent slots, you get a very slight speed increase. DIMMs 16GB or larger are always Registered DIMMs, and do not play nice with standard unregistered DIMMs, so all other must be removed to use ANY 16GB or larger. Buy only from a Vendor who can tell YOU what modules to Install, and offers a money-back guarantee.
The MacBOOK Pro has all RAM soldered to the motherboard for maximum reliability, and can only be upgraded when you decide to purchase one with more RAM.
