Q: Messages wont open since macOS Sierra install

Hey all!

I am on a 2015 13" Macbook Pro, only had it for a couple months and have had no issues with it. Since the update, my Messages app wont work. Always worked well in the past, tried to restart remove it from dock and all that but it wont open. Sometimes it loads a blank slate, but when I try to send a message it freezes up and never sends. Every now and then, hours after the fact, I might get a new text notification in the top right but I am unable to open it up.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, iOS 10.0.2

A Safe Mode boot deletes some system caches that can help after and update.

Follow these steps to start up into safe mode.

    1. Start or restart your Mac.
    2. Immediately after you hear the startup sound, press and hold the Shift key.
    3. Release the Shift key when you see the Apple logo appear on the screen.

After the Apple logo appears, it might take longer than usual to reach the login screen or your desktop. This is because your Mac performs a directory check of your startup disk as part of safe mode.

To leave safe mode, restart your computer without pressing any keys during startup.

    Then try the Messages app.

I haven't downloaded anything that isn't put out by Apple. Messages worked just fine until this update (I'm away from my backup for a few days, worst case Im gonna go back to Yosemite)

    Hi,

    Check two things:-

    1) The Contacts App  > Card Menu > My Card

This should be your details  and Messages can have issues if it is not.

    2) If you can get Messages to open can you access the Preferences or is it grey out ?

If it is greyed out go to the Font Book app and check AppleGothic is Active, not Duplicated and Validates.  (it is quite a long way down the list when checking in the Font Book App)
